Greetings from University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru, India. On behalf of UAS, Bengaluru, international and national Organizing committee, I am delighted and honoured to welcome all the delegates to participate in the 7th International Conference on Silicon in Agriculture to be held during 24-28, October 2017 at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.

The international silicon community is almost two decade old and the family joined together for the first time in Lago Mar Resort and Club Fort Lauderdale, Florida, The United States during 1999, followed by the second in Tsuruoka, Japan (2002), the third in Uberlandia, Brazil (2005), the fourth in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (2008), the fifth in Beijing, China (2011), the sixth in Stockholm, Sweden (2014) and we are pleased to host this 7th International Conference.

The tentative theme of the 7th International Conference on Silicon in Agriculture is “Silicon solution to sustainable agriculture”. Albeit silicon is ubiquitous in nature, it has not yet been considered as essential mineral nutrient although application of silicon was shown many beneficial and functional roles in agriculture. The main aim of the conference is to share and discuss different aspects on utilization of silicon in agriculture throughout the world by the galaxy of scientists, researchers, students and industry representatives to provoke thoughts on future silicon research for the scientific fraternity and its benefits for the sustainable agriculture. This conference will also provide the possibility to meet colleagues from different countries working on silicon and to have fruitful discussions and exchange of knowledge.

Popularly known as the silicon city and garden city of India, Bengaluru is the software capital of country located in Southern India. The city has diverse attraction to offer lush gardens, tree lined avenues, well laid out parks notably the sprawling Cubbon Park and colorful Lalbagh garden and the magnificent Vidhana Soudha, which houses the state legislature of Karnataka. So, Bengaluru is a peaceful city filled with greenery or is it an urban metropolis on the cutting edge of technology? When you explore Bangalore, you realize it is both, holding on to its older reputation while creeping toward the future.

For those who would like to visit India, pre and post conference tour will be organized. The organizing committee will be at your disposal to make suggestions and to get you in contact with local and well-experienced tour and field trip organizers (Meetings and More). Do not hesitate to contact us for further details.

I look forward to see you all in Bengaluru in 2017.
